These are a really easy, delicious and unique appetizer for you to bring to your next holiday party. I had actually completely forgotten that I used to make them all the time until an old friend came by for a visit and asked for the recipe. Well, here you are Spencer, enjoy!
Ingredients
12 oz broccoli florets and stems, chopped
2 cups chicken broth
10 oz cheddar cheese*
1/2 onion, finely diced
1 oz butter
1 oz heavy cream
Ground black pepper
Ground nutmeg
2 8 oz packages of crescent roll dough
* I prefer a old cheddar, but use what you like best
Directions
Preheat you oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper (cheese will inevitably leak out of these, and they will stick to the metal surface
Bring the broth to a boil in a pot and add the the broccoli pieces to cook in it, about 7 minutes
In a pan on medium heat, melt the butter and add the onions, cook until softened. Then add the broccoli, heavy cream, and cheese. Mix on medium or low until combined. The cheese does not need to be completely melted before you proceed to the next step.
Lay out the crescent roll dough, and add a teaspoon full of the broccoli cheddar mixture to the larger side of each triangle. You can close the dough any way you like, I fold the corners up to meet each other in the middle, but you can roll the dough, pinch it into a square shape, whatever you like!
Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the dough is cooked through and golden. Let cool 5 minutes and serve warm!
